Shortly after beginning their time together, host families and au pairs receive a Welcome Box in the mail from Cultural Care Au Pair. The box contains a variety of materials—from games to practical resources—that provide support to program participants and help build the foundations for a great relationship.

In 2023, Cultural Care went through a brand refresh, and as part of that process our marketing team revisited some of the Welcome Box materials. Understanding that the beginning of an au pair and host family's time together can be both exciting and challenging, we brainstormed ideas for materials that would help facilitate a successful transition. Ultimately, two resources we decided to produce were a set of "Open when..." letters that au pairs are advised to read during milestone moments on the program or when experiencing common but unpleasant feelings like homesickness, and an au pair journal that includes a sticker sheet for decorating, a list of open-ended prompts for inspiration, and information on support resources offered by the program. I led the design of these resources, incorporating aspects of our new visual identity such as hand-drawn patterns and black and white illustrations.

The "Open when…" letters and au pair journal have since been produced are now included in the Welcome Box, mailed to thousands of new au pairs and host families each year.
